It's a great idea to gift your loved ones. •Slip casting facilitates the mass producing of ceramics. Dependent on how many molds you have, slip casting can create hundreds of identical pieces. Some potters tend to favor this method, as slip casting makes pieces that are tricky to hand build or create on the wheel much easier. Another brilliant benefit of slip casting is that you can make wares like a jug with a handle as a single piece. Slip casting is also a great method to create more complicated pieces, such as a teapot. •Mold inner dimensions are given. The dimensions of the forms to be obtained from the mold may vary depending on the type of clay, the depth of the retouching process and the firing degree. (Generally 4%-8%). •The Slip-Casting Process• ·First of all, slowly pour the slip into the mold until it reaches the very top. Leave the mold full for approximately 15 minutes, allowing the outer part of the cup to harden. (The time can later be adjusted if you find your finished product is too thick or too thin.) You can then pour the rest of the pouring slip back into the jar and this slip can be reused for another glass if it stays clean. Once the cup is leather hard, it will begin to separate from the mold. That’s when you know it’s safe to remove and strong enough to be handled. You can use an X-Acto knife or a green scouring pad to even the top edge and clean up any imperfections. You can carve designs, or just leave it as is for a smooth exterior.
