Soft Maple - Hardwood Type – Inventables, Inc.

Soft Maple ranges in color from almost white, to a light golden or reddish brown. It has closed pores and a fine texture. This species’ growth rings tend to be lighter than in Hard Maples. Soft Maple is fairly easy to work with both hand and machine tools but has the tendency to burn when being machined at high speeds.

Soft Maple (Acer rubrum) is about 25% softer than hard maples. The sapwood is indistinguishable from the heartwood, which is creamy white in color
